Credit/No Credit Courses

A limited number of courses on the Madison campus are offered on a credit/no credit basis. This means that at the completion of the course the student is given a grade of CR or N rather than a letter grade. A grade of CR will give the student credit towards a degree but will not have any gradepoints associated with it to be figured into the gradepoint average calculation. A grade of N will award no credit. Credit/No Credit courses are identified in the Class Search - Class Details page as a Grading basis of "Credit/No Credit".

There is a difference between courses offered on a credit/no credit basis and those taken on a pass/fail basis. Approval for a department to offer a course on a credit/no credit basis requires action by the appropriate Divisional Committee and Dean in time to be so designated in Class Search. To take a course pass/fail is a student's option with Academic Dean's approval.
